Lame Ducky

•January 17, 2007 • 6 Comments

Here is a article we wrote up as a somewhat random alternative to playing card games. I have to admit it was more fun then playing cards. We had a great time writing it up, but unfortunately we cannot at this time disclose what exactly was written about. You can guess though, there’s a few metaphors included that’ll assist you in discovering what was actually written. Its late, 4:37 to be exact, and I’m going to bed.

Peace and good night!

Its been a great week, LaVern’s kids got back on Tuesday from ER. We went to the beach on Wed. and had a great time. We even stayed there and watched the sunset. We’ve had quite a few late nights, involving the 3c’s, coke, coffee and cards. I was actually really tired from staying up late Thurs. night and winning steel games right and left that I had to bow out last night and go to bed at 9:30. Today looks to be rather unexciting, but next week should have some highlights.

In unrelated news, thepiratebay.org is trying to buy Sealand for 500m euros. Their goal is to create a country that has no laws, or at the very least no copyright laws. This way they would be out of the mpaa’s reach. They have created buysealand.com, a place where YOU can donate, and thus become a honorary citizen IF they ever come up with enough money.

Verizon Math

•January 7, 2007 • Leave a Comment

So I came across this recently, and after listening to it with John, decided I should clue in all my readers.
There is a whole blog dedicated to a mistake made to some dude when Verizon overcharged him $71 instead of $.71. The base problem was that 6 Verizon reps quoted .002 cents per KB for mobile internet, and then proceeded to charge .002 dollars. Everyone from simple reps to supervisors to floor managers didn’t understand that there is a difference between dollars and cents. It was not a isolated incident either, tons of people have had this problem.

You can visit verizonmath.blogspot.com or download the 27 minute audio file directly from here.

Performancing — BEST TOOL EVER.

•January 6, 2007 • 2 Comments

I just finished setting up Performancing at Ryans recommendation, and have to say its a MUST HAVE for any blogger. I may have to post more frequently now thats its so simple. Haha thats gonna happen.

So anyway, this last week LaVern’s were living at our house. Needless to say we
hung out alot. A normal nights sleep was 4-9. Sometimes we had/made
time to nap a bit in the afternoon so as to have enough energy to play a
variety of card games in the evening. LaVerne’s are out at ER, visiting
Jana this weekend, so its fairly calm around here. Next week we hope to
spend a day, and possibly a night at Los Bungalos, a really nice beach.
On the agenda also may be mountain climbing.

Life is interesting

•December 29, 2006 • 3 Comments

Christmas was good on the whole. We celebrated it one day later then usual, on the 25th. I was fortunate enough to add 4 more coffee cups into my arsenal. I had a big cup earlier. This Christmas I received a even bigger cup. It is of such size that 2 full cups nearly empty our 12 cup coffee percolator. I also received 6 or so types of mocha, lattes, and flavored coffees. So yes, Christmas was good. I am deeply confident New Years will be better though. I know its crazy, and maybe it shouldn’t be this way, but cousins are better then coffee.

So yesterday was finally Christmas Banquet. It was a good evening, other then having a particular nasty joke played on me. The volleyball was rather sub-par, which was kinda sad. On the bright side while I was playing soccer last night I was fortunate enough to have a particularly big guy step on my painfully ingrown toe.

That is why I happen to be typing this on my cell phone in the waiting area of a doctors office. A doctor who is preparing to dump on a little local anaesthesia , grab a knife and CUT OFF out my painfully ingrown toe. I’m planning to video it with my cell.

So, I’m back home now, preparing to post this, and just thought I should add that in the end, the doc didn’t cut anything. Instead he got a soldering iron, or rather a glorified version of it, with a big green blinking light, and burned off a good portion of my toe. Fortunately, the doctor was kind enough to add fairly liberal doses of anaesthesia in three diferent parts of my toe via a large injection with a super-sized needle. So I relaxed, sat back, and watched the twisting column of rising smoke, and snapped the occasional pic. Great way to pass a afternoon.

Here in El Salvador, the 24th, is Christmas. And i celebtrated it by going to bed at 10:30. I think its the first time I’ve went to bed early on Christmas, since….. my worst Christmas ever, which was when LaVernes were here last time. I still have memories of being to sick to go outside, or even to the bathroom, which means I had my own little vomit bucket, ready for action. Believe me, it got lots of it that Christmas night.

Anyway, this year my mom was quite sick. Seems I’ve been to busy to just sit back and enjoy the season. Its really quite counter-productive. This year our street has had more lights then ever, but less fireworks. Its like kids who used to get a kick out of making big bangs have now moved on, and are doing LESS productive things on Christmas.

Heres a vid of out street, and towards the end, theres a few clips of the wild concert they arranged out in front of out house until 3 AM, some day last week. Click me.

Peace to all.

Work, lots of it

•December 21, 2006 • 3 Comments

Been running around like a chicken with my head dangling on my side, limp and lifeless. Next week is Christmas banquet, and until recently, we had no idea how we’d raise the necesary moneys for that occasion. Then theres the 2 big book orders I had to put together and send off. About 11 grand of books. The funnest part is yet to come tho, because its a huge pain to get the books through the border. Ugh. Still, life is more interesting this way. Not all bad.

Our family decided its time to start talking of what should be done when LVs are here. I’d say theres alot of potential the  first weeks of Jan. Something I can imagine us doing is staying up late, playing cards, drinking coke, whilst sipping coffee. Not that I’ve like ever done that, just something I’m considering doing.  On a side note, just found a fairly big travel coffee mug that can hold aprox. 6 normal sized cups. I use it as a personal cup on trips. Good stuff.

sweet 18.

Sweet 18. Sweet 18. Sweet 18. I wrote that 3 times in a row, NOT because being 18 is like soo much better then being 17. I really can’t tell much of a difference, that’s of course, other then the very noticeable MATURITY LEAP I made the minute I turned 18. On the brighter side, I believe me and this maxwell guy are the same in at least one way.

I grow more intense as I age.

Florida Scott-Maxwell, O Magazine, October 2003

One of the bad things about turning 18 is I had to do a ton of paperwork to get a drivers license as my previous one expires when I turn 18.

First I had to wait a while in line to get a birth certificate, which I used to wait in line somewhere else, and get a DUI (a document that’s universally accepted as a means of identification.) With that I waited in line another few hours to get a drivers licence. The practical upshot being- I can now drive the van I’ve been driving the last 3 years, LEGALLY! yay. The license that you can get when your 15 only allows you to drive cars, and other small vehicles. Thankfully, in all my brushes with cops, they didn’t read the small print.(!)

I’m around again.

WHAT? a new post?

Now that my HPD(hits per day) are down to somewhere between 1 and 0 I decided that perhaps I should post again.

Work this last week has been quite busy. It could easily have been the “peak” week of the season. We had quite a few blend jobs (that’s where you take 3 wagons of different wheat, and empty them simultaneously onto a semi) which are always fun to set up. There’s no doubt that work is alot more fun when there’s more to do then what can be done, but it tends to be a lil’ more tiring as well.

One of the few things there are to look forward to at this point is YOUTH RETREAT.

It hurts ALOT that I haven’t played v-ball for like 2 whole weeks. :( That will be made right tho’, during this coming weekend ;)

It also may be good to point out that currently we have dialup here at the house. So… being as my inbox alone takes 3-5 minutes to load, it is not often I have the pacience to sit and wait on the the picture of the handsome guy up top to load.
